Implications of Technology in Adult Education

"When considering the role of technology in adult learning, adult educators must determine how to respond to technology and exploit it without diminishing the learning experience" (Imel).  Personally my fascination with this topic is how to use technology to engage learners. In my classes, i will work on implementing technology in all four approaches mentioned by (Imel).  I will include technology topics in my curriculum such as effective search strategies, how to critically evaluate information, and finding reputable sources. These will be engaging as it is applicable; many learners likely use technology in one form or another to retrieve information in the course or others, and in everyday life.  I can also incorporate games such as kahoot to encourage participation, create engaging videos using mysimpleshow and post on youtube, use an app for quizzies and evaluation, use collaborative platforms such as blackboard for online learning, and skype for communication; twitter as a discussion forum, encourage facebook groups for group projects, all to engage learning.

The biggest challenge with technology is the rate of advancement.  As an instructor i would have to keep up to date through subscribing to reputable periodicals in the technology such as MIT Technology Review.
